Antler Australia Melbourne 2026: Complete Founder Application Guide

Entrepreneurs preparing to build a scalable startup can apply for the Antler Australia Melbourne 2026 residency, a full-time venture-building programme for founders at the earliest stage of company development.

The opportunity is suitable for applicants who are still validating an idea, looking for a co-founder, building a minimum viable product or preparing to secure their first institutional investment.

Antler is an inception-stage venture capital firm rather than a grant programme. Selected founders participate in the residency, while only the strongest companies receive an investment offer after Antler’s assessment and investment-committee process.

When Does the Melbourne Residency Start?

Antler’s official schedule lists 27 July 2026 as the start date for its next Australian cohort, operating across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The organisation clarifies that published cohort dates are start dates, not application deadlines. Antler encourages candidates to apply early, but its general application page says founders can submit and secure a place at different points during the year. Applicants approaching the start date should verify whether they are being considered for the immediate cohort or a later intake.

Antler Australia typically runs residencies twice each year, in February and July.

What Happens During the Antler Melbourne Residency?

The Australian residency is currently described as an intensive eight-week programme.

Participants work on co-founder selection, market research, customer interviews, product development, commercial validation, business modelling and investor communication. The objective is to help founders achieve in several weeks what might otherwise take many months.

Founders receive access to:

  • Other carefully selected entrepreneurs;
  • Co-founder-matching opportunities;
  • Dedicated coaching;
  • Experienced operators and industry experts;
  • Antler’s international founder community;
  • Technology and business-service benefits;
  • Potential pre-seed and follow-on investment.

The programme requires active execution rather than passive attendance. Applicants should expect to test assumptions, speak with customers, build products and respond to regular feedback.

Who Should Apply?

Antler works with founders at the inception and pre-seed stages. Candidates may apply as individuals, partial teams or complete founding teams.

A founder does not need to have incorporated a company or generated revenue. Some participants join without a final idea, while others arrive with an MVP, early users, customers or an existing team.

Antler looks for ambitious founders capable of building large, technology-enabled companies. Relevant profiles may include engineers, product specialists, scientists, healthcare professionals, business operators, commercial leaders and individuals with specialised knowledge of an underserved market.

Applicants should be able to show at least one strong founder advantage, such as technical depth, customer access, sector expertise, leadership ability or a record of building and scaling projects.

Antler Melbourne Investment Terms

Companies selected for investment may receive AU$260,000 in exchange for 12% equity, based on Antler’s published Australian terms.

A AU$75,000 programme fee is deducted from the initial investment. Founders should assess the gross investment, net capital received, valuation and dilution before signing the final investment documents.

Antler may also provide additional capital after the initial investment. Its Australian support model includes follow-on investments from the local fund and access to Antler Elevate, its later-stage vehicle for selected companies progressing towards Series A, Series B or Series C.

Under the published rolling-capital arrangement, Antler may commit one-third of a portfolio startup’s next funding round when the company raises at least AU$300,000 from external investors within its first 12 months.

Is the Programme Full-Time?

Yes. Antler expects founders to commit completely to building their companies.

Its application guidance says participation is not compatible with a full-time job, university degree, another active company or significant freelance commitments. Candidates should therefore plan their finances and responsibilities before accepting an offer.

International applicants must independently secure the immigration status required to live and build in Australia. Antler does not provide visa-acquisition services.

How to Strengthen Your Application

A strong application should clearly describe:

  • Your most valuable professional or technical expertise;
  • The problem you want to solve;
  • Why the problem is urgent;
  • The customers affected;
  • What you have already built or learned;
  • Why you can become an exceptional founder;
  • Your willingness to commit full-time.

Applicants without a fixed idea should focus on their expertise, achievements and ability to identify valuable opportunities.
