Techstars Anywhere Accelerator 2027: $220,000 Funding and Application Guide
Founders who want the benefits of a major startup accelerator without relocating for three months can apply for the Techstars Anywhere Accelerator 2027.
Applications opened on August 24, 2026 and close on November 18, 2026. The accelerator starts on March 8, 2027 and concludes with Demo Day on June 3, 2027.
The programme is remote-first and designed primarily for companies operating within North American time zones.
What Is the Techstars Anywhere Accelerator?
Techstars Anywhere launched in 2017 to give founders access to Techstars’ mentorship, capital and international network without forcing them to relocate to one accelerator city.
Although most of the programme is remote, it is not entirely virtual.
Techstars currently plans three in-person offsites in major startup and venture-capital hubs during the programme. Founders therefore receive the flexibility of remote participation while still building face-to-face relationships with investors, mentors and other members of the cohort.
The accelerator lasts approximately three months.
How Much Does Techstars Invest?
Companies accepted into most Techstars accelerator programmes currently receive $220,000 in day-one capital.
The investment consists of $200,000 through an uncapped Most Favoured Nation SAFE and another $20,000 through a convertible equity agreement that converts into 5% common ownership.
This means Techstars ultimately receives at least 5% common equity plus whatever ownership results when the $200,000 SAFE converts.
Techstars does not charge founders a monetary participation fee.
Founders should still obtain independent legal advice so they understand how the SAFE, common ownership and future fundraising may affect dilution.
Which Startups Is Techstars Anywhere Looking For?
The programme is open across industries but currently highlights founders building value-generating technologies.
Techstars specifically mentions areas including robotics, energy, applied artificial intelligence, physical AI and materials science, although the programme is not limited exclusively to those sectors.
The stronger question is whether the startup can become a substantial venture-scale company.
Founders should be able to demonstrate a significant customer problem, a large potential market and a strong reason why their team can build a defensible solution.
Companies at pre-seed or seed stage are generally the natural fit, but Techstars also works with businesses that have already raised external funding.
Do You Have to Be in the United States?
The programme is designed around American time zones rather than a single physical city.
Founders do not have to relocate to participate, but teams must be able to engage fully with the programme schedule and attend required offsites.
International companies should also review Techstars’ corporate requirements. Techstars invests in eligible U.S. corporations or acceptable foreign equivalents. Startups incorporated in certain jurisdictions may need to establish an approved holding-company structure before investment can be completed.
What Happens During the Accelerator?
A Techstars accelerator is built around intensive mentorship and execution rather than lectures alone.
Founders work with experienced entrepreneurs, investors and operators to improve their product, customer acquisition, business model and fundraising strategy.
The programme also provides access to the wider Techstars network and startup benefits. Techstars currently advertises more than $1 million in cloud credits and significant additional AI and API benefits across its wider accelerator offering.
Demo Day gives participating startups an opportunity to present their progress and fundraising story.
How to Write a Strong Techstars Anywhere Application
Founders should be extremely specific about customers and traction.
Rather than writing that the company operates in a “multi-billion-dollar market,” describe exactly who buys the product and why.
Explain your most meaningful milestones. These might include recurring revenue, pilot customers, retention, active usage, contracts, letters of intent or technical breakthroughs.
The application should also demonstrate founder-market fit. Why does your team understand this problem better than other founders who could enter the market?
Finally, explain what you hope to achieve during the accelerator. Techstars should be able to see how its network, mentorship and capital can materially accelerate the company.

Founders who want a major U.S. accelerator while maintaining greater geographic flexibility should seriously evaluate the Anywhere structure, especially if relocating for an entire programme would be difficult.
